Made from hand picked grapes in the Rioja Alta district. Following a short pre-fermentation cool maceration, the alcoholic fermentation was carried out controlled temperatures to retain the grapes’ varietal fruit characteristics.
The young wine was transferred to French (70%) and American (30%) oak barrels
where it remained for one year and a half gaining elegance as a result of
careful
regular hand racking from new to older oak during that time. It was finally
bottled after a light, natural clarification.
The vintage was given excellent status by the Consejo Regulador. A mild winter was followed by an early spring, bringing forward the onset vegetative cycle.
In early September temperatures dropped slowing down the grapes’ maturation.
Around 10th April, summer temperatures returned and the final phase of maturation
was perfect. The grapes came to the winery in perfect condition, with a perfect
balance of sugars and polyphenols.
Ripe, mature cherry red, complex and with an elegant balance between ripe fruit and light toasty oak. Full and ripe in the palate with integrated noble tannins and a richly structured long finish. Over time in bottle it will increase in elegance whilst never losing its classic Rioja Alta fullness and structure.
